2014 M.S. Walk

I don't post here very often anymore (I know, it's been years. Facebook has basically taken me over) but I am using all of my Social Media outlets to shill for donations to my walk page for the 2014 M.S. Walk.

http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/psychoktty

I am doing the MS Walk because my boyfriend has Multiple Sclerosis and I have seen how the MS Society uses their funds to help search for a cure. People who live with M.S. live with a cornucopia of different weird varying symptoms, and the knowledge that they will ultimately get worse.

The research they are doing these days is focusing on reversing the damage caused by M.S., which is hopeful for people who currently suffer, as it means that they could actually get better. I want to support this, so I would like you to help by donating.

The MS Society uses ALL of the funds they get for research. I don't think I even get a tee shirt for this one.

AIDS Walk 2011

Hiya all

I am doing the Minnesota AIDS Walk this year

http://community.mnaidsproject.org/cmarkey1

I'm raising money, my goal is $200 - a donation in any amount helps - only donate if you have it.

And yes I know I seem to post here only once every 6 months. I do actually read my friends feed on a daily basis.

Red Ribbon Ride

My friend Jeff is participating in the Red Ribbon Ride again this year.

The Red Ribbon Ride is an event which raises funds for the following AIDS related charities: African American AIDS Task Force, The Aliveness Project, Clare Housing, Hope House of St. Croix Valley, Minnesota AIDS Project, Park House, One Heartland and Rural AIDS Action Network.

He has a big monetary goal, but I am sure that even a very small donation will help.

Jeff bikes in the race as a "Positive Pedaler" because he lives with HIV/AIDS. Read more about Positive Pedalers here: http://www.redribbonride.org/site/PageServer?pagename=PositivePedalers

This is a wonderful cause - you can support Jeff's Red Ribbon Ride here: http://www.redribbonride.org/site/TR?px=1238764&fr_id=1090&pg=personal
I will be particiating in this overnight relay marathon. It's for a good cause - won't you follow the link below and kick in a couple bucks? I figure that if I can get 100 people to dontate $1.00*, then I will meet my fundraising goal of $100.00!

*you can always kick in more than $1.00. Cancer research is expensive.

Things going on... I have two weeks left to my current class block in school then I'll have a week off. I just spent about an hour and a half working on my final projects for both classes; not done, but I will be by the time they're due.

I got up at 6:45 this morning and ran my mile, then I went to the Y for water aerobics; was dismayed to find that the scale hasn't moved from last week, but clothing is looser so I am assuming that there is some muscle equation stuff going on. Not going to worry too much about it. 8/5 - 8/19 the pool at the Y will be closed, so I will probably be spending time on the eliptical trainer in the gym to compensate. I like the water better though. Meh.

Regarding the weight loss bit... I am now officially actually able to purchase XL sized tops out of the Misses section ie. not plus sizes. Woo Hoo right? I tried on a shirt today that was an XL in Juniors and it did fit, but I didn't like the color. That REM shirt that was too tight when I bought it in June will fit me in no time!

I'd like to try running around one of the lakes soon, but I am still only getting a little over a mile in the neighborhood. I think it would be best if I just waited awhile longer.

Thats pretty much all I've got for now...

Overcoming Adversity

Recently someone sent around one of those "get 2 noe yer frends" questionairres and it asked what quality do you dislike in other people, and I put "defeatism." It really really is true. Nothing ticks me off more than someone with enormous potential (read: everyone) not doing everything they can to make their own lives better. On the other hand, I think it's great when I see people who see their potential to overcome the negatives in their lives and do everything they can to enjoy the life they're given.

There is a woman who I see at the Y on Saturday mornings who is in a wheelchair due to something having made the bones in her feet very brittle. She could conceivably rot away on disability or give up, I could see how it would be very easy to do so. But she is in the pool at the Y exercising early on Saturday mornings, and probably other times during the week. She works and gets out of the house and owns her life, it doesn't seem to own her, not one bit.

If something has a hold of you, you take yourself back and you do whatever it is you have to do to win. No excuses. Sometimes it really does rain shit, or fire in this case - http://www.yvettecadefund.org/ - , but that doesn't mean you have to let it have you. The only catch is that nobody can overcome your obstacles for you, you have to take ownership of your life and just DO it.

And that's all I have to say about that.

In history...

Oh and at work, the main LJ site is not blocked, but my friends page is. Gah.
